MACINTOSH OT/PPP CONFIGURATION

1. From the Apple Menu, choose Control Panels.

2. Open the Modem control panel.

3. Check the following settings and change them where necessary.

• Connect via: Choose the port corresponding to your modem. The normal setting for desktop Macs is the modem port. PowerBooks generally use PCMCIA modems, so it should be either the Upper or Lower PC Card Slot.
• Modem: Choose your modem. If your modem type is not listed, choose Null Modem or any of the Hayes modems. If this still does not help, try to get a copy of FreePPP.
• Sound: It is recommended to leave Sound on, so you can tell if your modem is working properly.
• Dialling: Set this to Tone.
• Tick the Ignore dial tone box.

4. Close it when you are done.

5. Open the PPP control panel.

6. Check the following settings and change them where necessary.

• Set Connection to Guest.
• Number: Set this to 1515

7. Click Options .

8. Click Protocol. Make sure the Connect to a Command Line Host is ticked, and the Use Terminal Button is also ticked.

9. Click Ok.

10. Click Connect to connect. When the terminal window appears, wait until you see the word:

login:

then type your login name and press Return. Next the password prompt will appear:

type your password (note that it will not appear on screen) and press Return. When you see the words:

MTU is 1500

11. Press Continue. You should be able to log in successfully.
